Who Am I?
Meet Gigi. This beautiful little 6 year old girl, is a Shih Tzu possibly mixed with Brussels Griffon. She’s absolutely adorable, great, vivacious personality, wonderful with humans and dogs.
Gigi is special needs as she does have diabetes. And because her owners did not pay attention to her medical needs, the diabetes caused her to get cataracts and Gigi is now blind. BUT she is doing amazingly well.
Her insulin dosages and sugars are under control and in the normal range and she is under veterinary monitoring. She does require blood glucose check-ups from time to time (currently every 3-4 weeks) which will become less as the doctor recommends. She also needs veterinary ophthalmologist check-ups from time to time to continue to monitor the health of her eyes as well as a daily eye drop to keep her eyes her eyes moist and healthy.
While she does require insulin shots twice a day they don’t have to be at the exact time – about ½ hour after breakfast and dinner, or approximately 10-12 hours apart. It is very easy to manage her care and it is a minimal amount of care. Once she gets adjusted to her new home she will be a happy camper and a fantastic addition to any family.
She does well with all other dogs provided they are not overly aggressive or overly playful (as she cannot see them to read their social cues.) She loves hanging out with dogs that are a little bit calmer and curls up with them and they curl up with her.
